In the Spring of 2001, before Sept 11th, I began doctoral work on the place of lament in Christian worship. Eight years to the day, May 4th, 2009, I completed that project. Now, “Kathryn Rickert, Ph.D.”, I am still pondering how these powerful, mostly unused biblical texts could help us to express our own great distress and soften us toward the suffering of others.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, in sight of Puget Sound. My own lamentation is linked to many experiences and relationships, and especially to a jarring awareness of living in a land that was taken from First Peoples in less than honorable ways.
I am very new to blogging and so there is a lot for me to learn here as to how this mode of expression is useful to me and to those who read these posts.
